Author - Alan Pollard
As an experienced IT practitioner who has held very senior positions in both the public and private sectors, my profession is also my hobby. Now fully retired I like nothing better than tinkering with computers, finding out what they can do, and exploring everything the internet has to offer. I get personal satisfaction from sharing my knowledge with others. You can read more about me on my main website it4beginners.co.uk.
Why have I created My Tech Tips?
The year 2020 has seen the global straightjacket imposed by Covid 19. This has decimated business, fragmented society, seriously damaged relationships and left many - particularly the vulnerable and elderly - isolated and out of contact with the outside world. But it has also brought about an enormous reliance on information technology and telecommunications, with more and more daily activities and commerce carried out over the internet. For those without the connections or knowledge to be able to access the outside world, the inevitable consequence has been even greater isolation, disenfranchisement and an inability to benefit from what computers and the internet have to offer. In other words it has exacerbated what is called the 'digital divide' - leading to yet more loneliness and frustration.
What you can find on My Tech Tips
This site offers help and ideas about computers and all things to do with Information Technology (IT). Written in everyday language that is easy to understand are tips, explanations and various items of interest. You will find all this under Tips in the menu and the articles will build into an archive that will grow over time. In addition to explaining and offering practical help on how to get the best out of IT, I also provide links to other sites that I feel are of particular merit and are worth sharing. I always respect the copyright of others but am not responsible for their content.
